The Kalivaç HEPP is located on the Vjosa river in the South-West of the Republic of Albania, about 170 km from Tirana and 100 km from the border with the Greece. Vjosa River is one of the main rivers in Albania with a total length of 272 kilometers of which the first 80 kilometers are in Greece, and the remaining 192 kilometers are in Albania. The Kalivaç have a total of 111 MW installed capacity consisting on two Kaplan units of 51 MW each and 1 Francis turbine (environmental flow) of 9 MW  and of 366.62 GWh yearly production. The hydropower plant basically includes a 49.00 m high concrete-faced rockfill dam (CFRD),1.40 million metercube of rock filling impounding a reservoir with a total capacity of 350 Mm³ (net volume 215 Mm³ ). The upstream face of the dam is covered with cast-in-place concrete slabs, 30 cm thick. Flood discharges are evacuated downstream of the dam through a gated spillway (4 gates) (weir crest at El. 96.00 masl) combined with an ungated auxiliary lateral spillway (weir crest at El. 110.00 masl). The main spillway has a capacity of 5’090 m³/s and is controlled by four 12 m wide and 14 m high segment gates.
